Abstract

Islamic education is founded on three interrelated concepts, namely tarbiyah, ta'lim, and ta'dib, which collectively aim to develop knowledgeable, ethical, and civilized individuals. However, these concepts are often understood and implemented separately, resulting in an incomplete realization of the goals of Islamic education. This study aims to examine the meanings, distinctions, interrelationships, and integration of tarbiyah, ta'lim, and ta'dib within the framework of Islamic education. A qualitative approach with a library research method was employed. Data were collected through a critical review of classical and contemporary literature and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that ta'lim focuses on the transmission and development of knowledge, tarbiyah emphasizes the comprehensive nurturing of learners' potential, while ta'dib concentrates on the cultivation of proper manners, ethics, and moral values based on Islamic teachings. Although each concept has a distinct function, they complement one another in achieving the holistic objectives of Islamic education. The study concludes that the integration of tarbiyah, ta'lim, and ta'dib serves as a fundamental framework for developing insan kamil (the complete human being) through the balanced development of cognitive, affective, and moral dimensions. The implications of this study highlight the need for curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational assessment systems that integrate these three concepts to strengthen learners' character, ethical conduct, and competencies in a sustainable manner
